The Seedance family, from version 1.0 to 2.5
Seedance 2.5 produces the longest video output and accepts the largest reference-input capacity, but its resolution ceiling holds at 720p, while Seedance 2.0 deployed up to 4K. So the version choice depends on whether output length or resolution matters more for your workload.

Which version belongs in deployment
If output length and reference control are the priority, 2.5. This version produces thirty seconds in a single generation, can be extended up to twice, and accepts more reference input than any other version in this family.
If resolution is the priority, 2.0. This statement is unusual and it is accurate: on the Runway rate list, the older version carries four resolution rows reaching up to 4K, while the newer version carries only two, 480p and 720p. If your output is destined for a large screen, migrating to 2.5 is a regression.
The timeline, extracted from model identifiers
ByteDance logs the release date inside the model identifier, so this timeline is not an estimate. doubao-seedance-1-0-lite-i2v-250428 on 28 April 2025, doubao-seedance-1-0-pro-250528 on 28 May, doubao-seedance-1-5-pro-251215 on 15 December, doubao-seedance-2-0-260128 on 28 January 2026, and doubao-seedance-2-5-260628 on 28 June 2026.
One further parameter is visible in this same list: versions 1.0 and 1.5 carried tier suffixes, pro and lite, and from 2.0 onward this suffix is removed entirely. So this family moved from two distinct tiers to a single model, with tiering shifted to the reseller layer; Runway today runs its own fast and mini variants that are not logged in ByteDance official list.
The parameter that proves this regression
On the Runway rate list, Seedance 2.0 runs at thirty-six credits per second at 480p and 720p, forty credits at 1080p, and one hundred fifty credits at 4K. Seedance 2.5 carries only two rows: 720p at thirty credits and 480p at twenty. A rate table is not a marketing surface; if 2.5 supported 4K output, a row for it would be logged in this table.
ByteDance has not logged this parameter in any document. Its own 2.5 introduction page never states a resolution figure across its entire text, and the Seedance 1.0 page on the same site still headlines "1080p videos." That is why the resolution figure on this page is attributed to Runway, not to the vendor.
A pattern now observed twice in this reference
Seedance is the second family in this reference whose newest version is not the correct default configuration. The first was the Grok 4 family, where 4.5 carries a context window half of 4.3 and a higher rate. In both cases, the vendor presents the new version as a replacement, and that same vendor own specification table shows the claim does not hold.

- Seedance 2.5 current The length ceiling was upgraded from 15 to 30 seconds and the reference capacity from 12 to 50, but the 4K support present in version 2.0 has been removed in 2.5.
Known weaknesses and limits
- The resolution ceiling on version 2.5 does not exceed 720p, and against 2.0 this is a regression.
- ByteDance publishes no resolution figure for either 2.x version in official documentation, so this figure is extracted from a reseller rate list.
- The official yuan rate on the Volcano Engine console has not been checked, so the only rate logged on this page is from Runway.
- No version in this family publishes a speech-language list, so no data is available on the Persian-support parameter.
Technical verdict
The default configuration should be 2.5, since its output length and reference control are genuinely ahead. But before migrating, determine once where the output will actually be displayed; if the answer is a large screen, 2.0 remains the only version in this family that delivers 4K resolution.
