Best AI for studying
In today configuration, Gemini Notebook, the infrastructure that carried the name NotebookLM until recently, holds the top score: its pipeline converts one bundle of sources into several output formats and its free plan provisions fifty sources per notebook. Persian is also registered on its output-language list, so an English source can be converted into a Persian study guide or audio overview.

Where each tool's score comes from
The ring below is the same set of weights printed in the table headers further down.
- Output formats 35
- Source input capacity 20
- Persistent workspace 20
- Output language 10
- Access from Iran 15
We chose these weights, and that is the only judgment call in the table. Weight them differently and the order changes.
Today ranking, built from each vendor published specification
A tool whose figures are not yet verified is still entered into the table, without a rank. Removing it would have made the output cleaner and, at the same time, inaccurate.
| Rank | Tool | Score | Output formats 35 | Source input capacity 20 | Persistent workspace 20 | Output language 10 | Access from Iran 15 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Gemini Notebook Current pick | 100.0 | 4/4 | 50 sources Source: support.google.com | 3/4 | 80 languages Source: support.google.com | blocked / no working route |
| 2 | Gemini | 38.3 | 3/4 | 10 sources Source: support.google.com | 2/4 | 70 languages Source: support.google.com | blocked / no working route |
| 3 | Claude | 35.0 | 1/4 | not verified | 3/4 | not verified | blocked / no working route |
An empty cell means we could not verify that number, not that the tool scored zero.
Behind each number
Every judged score in this table carries a written reason, and the Iran column says how it was checked. Those two are open here. The measurement trail behind each number, which row of which leaderboard and on how many votes, opens under the model it belongs to.
1 Gemini Notebook
Output formats 4/4 It provisions nine output formats from a single source set, two of them flashcards and quizzes, an architecture built for active recall rather than mere rereading
Persistent workspace 3/4 The persistence layer provides a hundred durable notebooks on the free plan, a sharing capacity of up to fifty users, and a mobile app, but no delivery or publishing pipeline is built into the architecture
Access from Iran blocked / no working route Per Google official documentation, Gemini Notebook operation is confined to the same 180-plus regions where the Gemini app is active, and Iran does not appear on that app supported-region list. This finding comes from reading the source document, not from a network measurement; a direct probe from inside Iran has not yet been run.
2 Gemini
Output formats 3/4 A pipeline for study guides, flashcards and quizzes with charts is implemented, and it accepts YouTube video and images as input, but per Google own documentation, audio overview, video overview and infographic stay implemented in Gemini Notebook
Persistent workspace 2/4 Chats and notebooks persist in the sidebar and sync bidirectionally with Gemini Notebook, but a shared notebook renders nowhere in Gemini, and a team-workspace layer is not defined
Access from Iran blocked / no working route Per Google own documentation, the Gemini web app is deployed across more than 230 countries and territories, and Iran is not registered on that list. This finding comes from reading the documentation, not from a direct network measurement.
3 Claude
Output formats 1/4 The system output is text and documents, and its learning subsystem generates questions rather than delivering answers directly; but audio overview, video overview, flashcards and quiz are not defined output formats
Persistent workspace 3/4 Project capacity on the Pro plan is provisioned as unlimited, holding chats and documents in separate units; a team plan exists, and the university deployment integrates with Canvas and Panopto
Access from Iran blocked / no working route Iran is registered on neither of Anthropic two supported-countries lists. This finding comes from reading the vendor own documentation, not from a direct network measurement.
Not enough verified data to rank
These are real tools we track, but more than half of their criteria have no verified number yet, so ranking them would be a guess.

How this ranking is calculated
Every criterion below has a weight and a source. Change a weight and the whole table recomputes. There is no hand-placed position anywhere in this hub.
| Criterion | Weight | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Output formats | 35 | defined scale, with a written reason per assignmentOne source has to come back as several reviewable formats: summary, audio, video, mind map, flashcards, a quiz. What advances learning is active recall, not re-reading the same text |
| Source input capacity | 20 | vendor stated specificationA figure the vendor publishes itself, and it does not count the same unit for every tool; that inconsistency is explained further down this page |
| Persistent workspace | 20 | defined scale, with a written reason per assignmentWhether sources and outputs persist in a stable workspace you can retrieve next month, or every session starts the pipeline from zero |
| Output language | 10 | vendor stated specificationFor someone studying from Persian text, the output-language list has a more direct effect on the result than raw model quality |
| Access from Iran | 15 | our access column, with its method statedAll three ranked candidates sit at the same status in this column today, so this criterion currently separates nothing and only logs the status |
Why Gemini Notebook leads
Two figures, both from Google own documentation. First, its pipeline converts one bundle of sources into nine output formats: notes, audio overviews, video overviews, mind maps, reports, data tables, flashcards or quizzes, slide decks and infographics. Second, input capacity on the free plan is fifty sources per notebook, each capped at five hundred thousand words. The Gemini app, by comparison, has a capacity of ten files per prompt: enough for a single question, not enough to process a full course.
A third axis has no dedicated column in the table but matters more to a Persian-language reader than either of the other two: Persian is registered on Gemini Notebook output-language list, and the same documentation states that the selected language applies uniformly across the study guide, the audio overview, and chat responses. That means an English input can return Persian output with no auxiliary processing layer involved.
What this table does not measure
Answer quality sits outside this table measurement scope. What is measured here is only how many reviewable formats each tool converts a source into, and how much raw data volume it accepts as input. Claude ranks third here and may well exceed both candidates above it in reasoning and writing; its lower rank comes from producing no audio overview and no flashcards, and from Anthropic publishing no figure for project capacity at all. An empty cell in this table means the vendor has not published a number, not that the value is zero.
One note on the figure 100 itself. Normalization is relative, and in each column the top candidate takes the full weight of that column. So 100 means first place across all five columns of a four-member table, not a complete specification. If a tool with a hundred-source-per-notebook capacity enters this database tomorrow, that same figure drops for Gemini Notebook without anything about it changing.
Why ChatGPT carries no rank
Because no data on ChatGPT itself has been read from its primary source. Pages on openai.com return a 403 to our infrastructure, both through our own fetching tool and through a plain curl request, and the only domain that responds is the API documentation, which says nothing about study mode. A figure quoted on someone else blog does not count as an independent source. So its name is entered in the table, its columns stay empty, and the day that path opens, this is where it gets filled in.
A side finding from this audit
Google renamed the product. The official page, the browser tab title, and the support center all run on Gemini Notebook, while most Persian-language search traffic still targets NotebookLM. If you are searching for a tutorial on this tool and finding nothing, the fault is not on your end.
A second note for anyone auditing this data independently: the citable figures live only on the plan and upgrade pages. The product marketing page, across all three companies, carries not one printable number. Google at least publishes a limits table; Anthropic gives no capacity figure at all. That gap in published data, not a gap in real capability, accounts for part of the distance between ranks.
When our top pick is not the right fit
- If your workload is writing and argument rather than batch-processing one bundle of sources, do not use this table as your selection criterion. Claude ranks third here and is not a weak pick for that job.
- If you have a single study question and need one answer, provisioning a notebook is overhead; the plain chat app is sufficient.
- If your input source is a photo of handwritten notes, verify the extracted text first, or all four output formats will be built on a faulty input.
Known weaknesses and limits
- Two of the five criteria in this ranking are ordinal scales, meaning our judgment was recorded with a written rationale. No published numeric leaderboard exists for this job.
- The input-capacity column does not count the same unit for every tool: fifty sources in a persistent notebook and ten files in one prompt do not sum into a single figure.
- ChatGPT is unmeasured because OpenAI pages return a 403 to our infrastructure.
- None of the three ranked candidates has an official access route from Iran, so the Iran column separates none of them today.
- Khanmigo, Perplexity, and Quizlet have not yet entered this review pipeline; their absence from the table means capacity was not available, not that they were rejected.
Technical verdict
If you have notes, books, and papers and want to review that material, provision Gemini Notebook and set the output language to Persian from the start. If your workload is writing rather than reviewing, Claude is the better fit. And if week one went into flashcards and podcasts with no quiz taken, the tool did its job and you are the component that has not studied yet.
Frequently raised questions, with documented answers
What is the best AI for studying
In today configuration, Gemini Notebook, because it converts one bundle of sources into multiple output formats and provisions fifty sources per notebook. This answer carries a timestamp and its criteria are documented on this page.
Is NotebookLM the same as Gemini Notebook
Yes. Google renamed the product to Gemini Notebook, and both the official page and the support center operate under that name. The notebooklm.google address still resolves and routes to the same destination.
Why does ChatGPT carry no figures in this table
Because no page on openai.com opens for our infrastructure, and every request returns a 403. A figure not read from its primary source is not published on this page, even where another source has quoted it.
Is access from Iran possible for these tools
There is no official route. Iran is on neither Google supported-country list for the Gemini apps nor on Anthropic list. This database neither sells accounts nor proposes a circumvention method.
