What Stripe actually is
Stripe was built in 2010 by the Collison brothers to make accepting online payments a matter of a few lines of code. Today it is the checkout behind many of the world's large platforms, the gateway role Zarinpal plays in Iran at global scale.
What you pay and what you get
Fees are a percentage plus a fixed amount per successful transaction, with extra costs for foreign cards and conversion. High volume can get custom pricing.
Where it is strong
API quality, security and the tools around payments, such as subscriptions, fraud prevention and marketplace splits, put Stripe ahead of most gateways.
How it can improve, and what we could not verify
Opening an account depends on where the business is registered, and Iran is not supported. The countries listed are those where business registration was clear; Stripe's official list may include more.
