What Coursera actually is
Coursera was founded in 2012 by two Stanford professors. Universities and companies build the courses and Coursera publishes them, the role Maktabkhooneh plays in Iran with global partners.
What you pay and what you get
Many courses can be audited without a certificate for free. Certificates, specializations and Coursera Plus cost money, and full degrees cost more.
Where it is strong
The standing of its partners and a structure with assignments and tests set it apart from scattered videos. Its professional certificates are recognised on CVs.
How it can improve, and what we could not verify
Degrees and certificates are expensive and content is mostly in English. Access from Iran is restricted by sanctions, so Coursera is not in the Iran view.
