What Upwork actually is
Upwork was formed in 2015 from the merger of two older markets, Elance and oDesk. A client posts a project, freelancers send proposals, and the work is done and paid through the platform, the same model as Karlancer in Iran.
What you pay and what you get
Freelancers pay a fee on earnings and clients pay a payment fee. In return, fixed-price funds sit in escrow until the work is approved, and hourly contracts are protected by time tracking.
Where it is strong
The quality of its top freelancers and the transparency of their histories make Upwork dependable for serious work. Contract and payment tools are complete.
How it can improve, and what we could not verify
Total cost, with fees on both sides, is higher than local markets. Because of sanctions Upwork closes accounts linked to Iran, so it is not in the Iran view. Fee percentages change often, so no fixed figure is quoted here.
