Provisioning an AI account from Iran

None of the major vendors accepts a direct payment from Iran, so the correct engineering question is not which route works but what hidden cost each substitute route imposes beyond its price. Several documented routes exist, and each carries a distinct hidden cost.

  • documented routes with sources
  • no account sales
  • no referral links

Specification of two distinct routes: subscription or API access

Most searches that end at "buy an account" are actually masking two entirely different architectures. One is the monthly app subscription — Claude at twenty dollars, or a ChatGPT monthly plan — bundled with the mobile app, conversation memory, and projects. The other is API access, billed per unit of consumption, which ships none of those features.

If your workload is writing code or wiring a model into an internal tool, the second route carries both lower cost and lower operational risk, because the account belongs to you from the moment of signup with no intermediary in the path. Someone who only chats in a browser gets nothing out of an API.

For a development workload: API credit first. Then a virtual card, because account ownership stays with you. A reseller market last, and only accepting the premise that account ownership does not stay with you.

Getting around a service's country restrictions with a foreign virtual number or a gift card from another region usually breaks that service's terms of use and can lead to suspension and lost money; we do not recommend it and do not give instructions for it. Read the service terms and your own country's rules before you act.

Out of scope for this service

We do not sell accounts, we take no commission from any of these routes, and no referral link is embedded in the table above. Each service name is listed because readers search for it regardless, and it is better to read its operational risk somewhere that has no stake in selling it. The hidden-cost column is our assessment, not the service's own claim; wherever a source exists, its link sits beside it.

One failure mode no route resolves

An account opened outside the supported-countries list is exposed to suspension, and none of these routes removes that exposure. So do not build anything on any of them whose interruption would stop your operation. If your business depends on a single model, distribute that dependency across at least two.

Where to actually buy it

The routes that really exist, each with its hidden cost.

Route What it is and how you pay What it costs you that is not the price
OpenRouter API credit A single API layer that puts models from multiple vendors behind one unified interface and sells prepaid credit instead of a monthly subscription. Top-ups run through major cards, AliPay, and USDC, with a 5.5 percent card fee carrying an $0.80 minimum, or 5 percent on crypto. Per-model pricing passes through from the vendor with no added margin. This is not a subscription, so any component tied to the vendor app is absent from this route: no mobile app, no conversation memory, no projects. For someone who only chats in a browser this is the wrong route; its operational value is for someone writing code or wiring the model into their own tool. On small top-up amounts, the percentage fee takes a disproportionate share of the cost.
Bitrefill virtual Visa and Mastercard prepaid card Bitrefill issues virtual prepaid cards for crypto: a Digital Prepaid Visa in the $20 to $1000 range and a Virtual Prepaid Mastercard in the $20 to $500 range. It accepts Bitcoin, Lightning, Ethereum, USDC, USDT, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Solana, and several other cryptocurrencies. Unlike a reseller-market account, whatever you sign up for with this card is in your own ownership from the first moment. A prepaid card is not a full substitute for a real credit card. Some services reject prepaid BIN ranges and the payment fails with no clear error message; next month's automatic renewal also fails if the card balance is insufficient, cutting the subscription off mid-cycle. Any balance left on the card is usually not withdrawable.
Plati.market reseller market A Russian digital-goods marketplace made up of independent sellers. AI subscriptions are on its catalogue too, and its front page lists ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Cursor, and Grok, most tagged for automatic delivery. Prices display in rubles, dollars, euros, and hryvnia. The purchase runs through an anonymous seller, not the vendor. What is delivered is usually access to an account that is not in your ownership, and nearly every one of these services' terms of use prohibits account transfer, meaning the account can be reclaimed or suspended at any moment with no appeal channel. The seller retains the account password and recovery email, so treat anything entered into that account as non-confidential.

We do not sell accounts, we take no commission on any of these routes, and there is no referral link in this table. The hidden-cost column is our own judgement, not the service's claim; anything with a source has the link beside it.

Room for improvement and technical considerations

  • No price appears on this page, because the reseller market shifts daily and a stale figure misleads more than no figure at all.
  • We have not tested any of these routes ourselves from an Iranian connection; what is documented here was read from each service's own official documentation.
  • An account opened outside the supported-countries list can be suspended and the amount paid is not refunded. No route removes this risk.
  • The hidden-cost column is our assessment, not an independently sourced fact. Like any assessment, it may not hold for your specific conditions.

Technical verdict

If you are a developer, provision API credit and skip the rest of this page: it costs less, account ownership stays with you, and no intermediary sits in the path. A reseller market only carries operational justification when you need something sold exclusively inside an app, and even then only on the premise that the account can fail any day.

Frequently raised questions, with documented answers

Is buying a ChatGPT account from Iran safe

An account a seller hands over is not in your ownership: the password and recovery email stay with the seller, and nearly every one of these services' terms of use prohibits account transfer. That means the account can be reclaimed and suspended. If you have no alternative route, do not record any sensitive data inside that account.

What is the cheapest way to reach good models

API credit, if your workload can be implemented against an API. A monthly subscription has a fixed price, but an API bills only for consumption, and for several uses a day the final cost is usually much lower. Factor in the top-up fee too: 5.5 percent on card, 5 percent on crypto.

Does signup always require a foreign number

It depends on the service. If a service requires a number from another country, it is not offered to users in Iran; getting around that with a virtual number usually breaks its terms of use, and we do not recommend it.

Do you sell accounts

No. We do not sell accounts, we are not an intermediary, and we take no commission on these routes. This page only documents what route exists and what it actually costs.
